Yesterday was my birthday

I took the day off and spent the morning in my fuzzy slippers.  Old and  beaten but still warm and comfy.

I was having some coffee when I noticed all my little reminders in the kitchen.

Then I was off to spend some quality alone time at Kohl’s.

My silly self thought I had 30% off, here I never pulled the tab to reveal my savings. $#!@ goober.  Can you say annoyed.  I’ve been pretty lucky with sneakers there for the boys and I scored again, even with just 15%, beats a blank.

Oh, wanna guess how old I turned?

It’s a new era for me, but I accept the challenge.

I was completely spoiled from dawn til dusk, and every email, text message, fb post and phone call was met with a smile, it twas a good day.

Take the pledge!

I got this in email a year or so ago, had to share.

Please raise your big toes and repeat after me:

As a member of the Cute Girl Sisterhood, I pledge to follow the Rules when I wear sandals and other open toe shoes:

I promise! to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs.

And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps.

I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. (I cheat on this one all the time!!)

I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow.

I will shave the hairs off my big toe. (I guess I need to get on this one, oops!)

I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there.

If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. (not guilty, whew)

I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr. Scholl's if my feet need him.

I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes at Payless for the low, low price of $4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes.  This is out of concern for my safety, and the safety of others.

No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.

I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin to look like Vienna sausages.

I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend/sister/coworker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes are as long as my fingers and no sandal makes creepy feet look good.

Tell me have you violated one of these rules before?

here: passed (I used palmolive cause that’s what I had on hand and it worked fine.  its was very heavily scented though - that was the only drawback)

Any project where you need a push of inspiration, is it.

I know social networking (facebook! twitter! instagram! tumblr! pinterest!) have all taken on a life of their own, but I have to say pinterest is my absolute favorite to date.

Summer is in full swing and it is hands down my most favoritist time of year.

My dad and my baby daddy. Father’s Day.

Felt like I spent most Father’s Day in the kitchen.

Although I did sneak away to make a Goodwill drop and Target run – kid free.

Twas a full house of cR@zy, as usual.

O! Kya Gurl, you’re so lovable.

There was lots of love and happy in the air.

I don’t have a good picture with my Dad.  But one of the memories that sticks is him telling me over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over: People don’t plan to fail they fail to plan

He is the biggest planner, saver, living simplest man I know.  Visually, my oldest son is simply a younger version, I’ll get a photo soon to share.  I owe a lot to my Dad, he impressed upon me the importance of my health and the value of a good education, a few things I am grateful for

I’m gonna see if I can get him to drive up next year.  Maybe? if I start now.

Hooray for Dads!

I have no vested interest in the NBA Finals.  At all.  My hometown is out, I could careless.

But I find myself rooting for the underdog or in this case, the most original, a beard and a mohawk?  Where they do that at?

10 points for originality.

I got nothing but love for both teams, but I am loving the OKC spirit and the gun show – oooow!

Yardsaling and pinterest

I got this dress, yardsaling for .50cents.

I liked it but thought it could use a little oomph, Pinterest to the rescue!

I used the back of an old white t-shirt, hot glue, scissors and 15 minutes.

Hello Mini Mamacita!

And we were out the door for her end of year Program.

All three of my kiddos were promoted this year to the next grade, without much help from me.  I completely took that for granted, until just this week, I was talking with a co-worker who has to pay to put kid in Summer school so he can be promoted to the next level.

Just a gentle reminder to congratulate your children (as well as friends and family) on all their successes.  We sometimes forget how much we DO have, in the quest for all our wants.  At least, I know I do.

Talk soon.

I laughed out loud for a while on this one.

Real Rap, True Story: At the end of Kya’s End of School ceremony, Haik meets me in the parking lot to pick up Kya so I can go on to work.

Earlier that morning, I was a little late to arrive so I got the last parking spot, the spot was next to a knee high rock wall, one of the rocks had fallen in the spot but it was close to the wall.  It was a tight squeeze, but I got in.  I checked the situation and it seemed as if, the only way out was for me to back out over the rock, fine.  But hopefully the other car would be gone and the problem would be solved.  I was crunched for time, I took the crappy spot.

The other car was still there when we got out of the program. Boo.

Haik scoops Kya.  I get in the car, he’s says to me: There is a rock in there.

I yell back: I know.

He's still watching me.  I am annoyed.  Who can back out with someone watching?  Ugh!!  I try my way and end up hearing a crunch. I get out, check the situation, all is ok.  But the rock is in between my tires on the passenger side.

All the while, I’m thinking, just leave, let me back out over this rock and be on my way, Silly Man!

Being the super husband he is, he walks over to direct me out:  Turn your wheel right, ok, now left, drive in, straighten your tires, ok, get as close as you can to the other car and back out straight.  I wanted to do it by myself.  All wrong and over the rock, but MYSELF.

Five minutes later when I got to Dunkin, I realized how silly I was being in my head.  And I thanked God (in my head) for my Awesome Husband and I thought, he don’t even know, he married a crazy woman.

End of school year

I waited until the last minute to make gifts for Kya’s teachers.  So I pulled a MacGuyver and used what I had on hand, fabric and rice, rice warmers…I love mine, I call him Luva.  Perfect for cold tootsies or when you need a warm compress.  Love the added heart, its my new fav, all about the details people.

The craft/study/xbox/computer room is still under construction but better.

It just feels bigger with the shelves down, see them up here

Of course I’m still figuring out the whole room, but for now, it’s functional, most of the mess is gone, well moved.

Old Office

This is the our office/computer/xbox/craft room.  And for some reason, no matter how much I clean it up.  It’s always messy.  I’ve changed this room around, I dunno, 100x.

It used to be just for using the computer and sewing, but recently the Xbox got moved here and with more traffic it’s now even meessier.  I fully appreciate that we are actually using the room.  As before I was annoyed about paying a mortgage on unused space, a room in a house should have use, imho.

Then last week I stumbled on this, and I’m making over the room, again.

Those shelves used to go to our old entertainment system.  I painted them white and we’ve used them in here for a year or so.  But they seem to take up a lot of space.

Stuff.  The room has begun to feel cluttered, too full.

I enlisted some help and now the room looks like this.

This is only half the room.

It’s hard to throw away the fabric scraps.

Mason and mayo jars to hold all the odds and ends of a never ending crafter.  I’ll tell you this, once you organize all your crap, you feel the need to buy less.

P6102899My VCR movie collection, can’t beat the price :)

Haikeem is over it, I think he thinks I’m crazy.  But I know I’m not alone, tis not perfection I seek, I just want functionality with a little cleanliness.

Is anyone else constantly tweaking?

Somewheeeeeere …..(so glad I got this picture, it says everything about her right now.)

Over the rainbow….

Way up hiiigh.

Kya is going through a singing phase.  It is every day, all day.  It is quite cute (and amusing!).

We ate dinner and then I went upstairs, sat on my tush and decided we should go to the park (I should get off my arse).  It was so pretty out, I took my camera.

I walked around the playground while she played, all by herself.  Then I sat for a while on a bench and when I saw this shot I got up to take her picture (above).

Then she said, “Wait I have a pose’

So cheesey.

“My friend took a picture like this with really pretty clothes on.” Oh, to be 5 and full of so much happy and promise.  I wish I could shake some on my breakfast each morning.

Haik and I attended a funeral yesterday, where I heard this song.  The version I found on youtube gets a little lengthy, but the important part is the lyrics.  I couldn’t hear the words too well yesterday, but I’m so glad I looked them up, cause I think I’ll keep them close. Forever.

Thankful Thursday.

Season Finale

Last night, the house was calm and cool by 9:45pm.
I had just enough time to get in front of the TV for MadMen.

That's when I heard the dreadful words, next week is the Season Finale.
What the what?  What's a girl to do, I am seriously addicted.
I need suggestions on other good shows out there?

P.S. I used PicMonkey to edit the above photo, it the new picnik.  It's free and I think the editing features are easier to use, my first time and I felt like a Pro.  Me likey.
