NO! Say it ain’t so….

Today was a co-workers birthday and she received Fall flowers, wth!  I am not done with Summer!!

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

impromptu bbq

The MIL made a lil cashola at the casino and wanted to take her grands to the amusement park…after 5pm discount it’s only $20, too bad the water park was closed.  We had an impromptu bbq instead.

That lead to weeks/weekends of sleepovers…

Confused? I was…then I grabbed my camera.  Did you have fun Summers with cousins? I did, great memories.

Before the boys left home to visit fam, Dad took out the clippers.

tlcNothing special just an all around buzz, shaped up…you think they realize the luv he puts into this? chlorine blondeThis is my 11 year old, do you see the blonde? Weird right.  I think it’s from chlorine in the neighbors pool?  Thank heavens this only happens in the Summer, or else me and the hubbs might be on Springer……Who is that baby's daddy?!

Last night, I caught up with Spring and did Summer cleaning? go with it…. I went through the clothes in the basement and came up with this -

goodwill drop

7, 8 (there was one already in the car!) so yea, 8 bags of clothing, belts, blankets, handbags, coats – UP OFF OF ME!  My youngest boy is now a size 12-14, why o why did I still have his size 8 pants? still holding on to Kya’s onesies, she’s 4 in December!  Goodbye stuff!  I hauled it off today, no tax form necessary sir, just take it ALL and find it a good home.

And with all the Goodwill goodness I’ve been scoring (+) one can of spray paint – PADOW!

This is now the hall when you walk in my home.  Luvn the pop of color.  I read here, to put stuff on my walls quick! That wall now greets all who enter my home.  Welcome.  And for less than 20 minutes with things I had in boxes collecting dust.  I hope your getting inspired!!  Clean House 2010, there’s still time :)

As for hair, all the blogs are doing product reviews?!?!  And all I want to do is buy buy buy!!!!!  I need to hit some forums to see whats the dealio before I break out the checkbook.  I am feeling a new routine for Fall though…hows about you, what u up to?

Welcoming Fall or still holding on to Summer?  Please say more Summer. Pleeeeeease? With a cherry on top?

Peace and Luv Yall, I’m glad you stopped by.

Jilly from Philly

This fabulous artist and I graduated High School together – Philadelphia High School for Girls!  whoohoo!!!

jillyThis past Saturday was our (gulp) 20 year High School Reunion and would you believe she stopped in!  And she kept it real regular, she didn’t get all Diva on us.  No entourage, Just Jilly.  Luv you Gurl.

It was great to see her, she has lost soo much weight.  Believe it or not she was even thinner in HS (which is probably true for many us)I wish I had a yearbook here with me now, to share a few pics.  She did plays and stuff then.

Anyhoo, do you see what I see?  I noticed it right off.  Jill done got a RELAXER!  Soooo not sure how I feel about that.  Her cut was sharp though and she was wearing it well.  There were a few naturals in the building, yep yep!

I brought along my junky camera and never had time to take any photos, but here is one of me.

tiff at reunion solo

My sister helped me pin back a fresh set of twists, to resemble two cornrows.

I donn’t know the proper procedure about photos from fb.  I wasn’t sure if I should keep my homie Saran in a picture a friend of ours snapped, so I just cropped her out to be safe and drama free.

The reunion was an uplifting experience, I really enjoyed myself.  I know going to HS with all girls may sound weird, but Girls High is rich on tradition as well as education and I didn’t truly appreciate it fully until now.

A Tiffany Tip!

I just had a breakthrough, well nothing to fix the BP oil leak, more like, ‘this could possibly save you a few pennies’ breakthrough.

The situation:

When I take out Kya’s braided hairstyles, I have to apply something to the ends to keep the experience positive and to also be gentle on the ends, since that is where most naturals lose their length.

In the past, I’ve used my normal moisturizing spritz

Well, tonight in my PURGE PURGE PURGE mode, I had a lightbulb.  Why not use stuff I’m not too fond of, since I’m about to wash her hair anyhow?

The solution:

A style remover for Tender Tresses!

tender tresses

Two thumbs up or what?

Here’s the stuff I used to make mine:

40% Infusium 23 – leave in conditioner (too watery)

+ 10% Wild Growth Hair Oil (smells medicinal, ew)

+ 50% tap water

100% Perfection!

How can you go wrong when you are using goods that would otherwise be trashed or go to waste?

I hope you can use this, you’d swear I just invented sliced bread.  So proud.

Staycation: (noun) – definition. staying at home but also on holiday

Hey Luvs,

I am home on a STAYCATION!

So much to share, coming soon.

90% of Uno Kiddos room is complete, 3 words, PURGE – PURGE – PURGE!  (whew) Glad he’s at Grandma’s.

Just started on the Kiddo #2’s room, new words, PAINT, PAINT, PAINT!

So I gotta run.  Spending a lot of time with my friends, Goodwilliam and Dollartreeta. LOL!  None of this staycation/cleansing would be possible without them.

And although I haven’t been blogging, I’ve been thinking about it, seriously.  (I know I gotta get out more.)

Hope you all are enjoying the last days of Summer and some of the fabulous sales that go with that!

Now where were we…

aaah, the natural hair phenomenon on Youtube:

The styles - The positivity - The support

Convinced me - Assured me - Inspired me - To Join!

I’d always thought natural Black hair was confrontational, aggressive, fight the power radical. But these women were radiant, fashionable, cute!

I was hooked.

So I got myself a FREE youtube account.

Then I learned how to see more of my favorites channels (click the yellow button to subscribe)

And formulated a plan, chemical free was for me! But how?

Somewhere in July 2008 I got braids and began my OUR transition:

In September 2008 I adjusted to my very first weave. At a whopping $300! $180 of which went on just the hair and 100% of that went on a credit card, I’d lost my mind!

But I will admit, I luvd this hair. Wake, shake and go. Weaves were a lot lighter in weight than I had imagined.

Right about now Kya’s hair had growth on top but was still fuzzy in the back and on the sides…but I was much more confident about natural hair and I was figuring out which products actually worked for her.

But in the meantime, she wore a lot of hats…

And sometimes glasses too…

This is a classic, she dressed herself…swimsuit, pajamas, t-shirt, boots? You Go Girl!

And here I am after my first weave, blow-dry and flat-ironed.

I got one more weave in 2009. The 2nd time was a different stylist, I saved on cheaper hair ($60ish vs. $180ish) but this stylist just put the weave in and didn’t style it to fit me or my taste. I ended up cutting it myself..

My son took this picture for me. It is funny to me, look at that pose. Crack me up, Look out Tyra!  I was liking the extensions a bit too much, eh?

While I was wearing the weave, I broke the news to the Hubbs.

Me: After I take out this weave. I’m cutting my hair.

Him: Ok.

Me: No, you don’t understand, I’m cutting out ALL the perm. I’m gonna wear it natural.

Him: Ok.

I went over that with him twice to be sure HE understood. (Who am I kidding? I was talking myself into it.) And now he luvs it, want to know why he luvs it? cause it saves us so much money! He is funny, would it kill him to pay me a compliment? Moving right along….

This one was after I first chopped it and figured out how to make my hair stay shiny and curly. All the styles for the first few weeks were not cute and I was uncomfortable in my own hair. Mostly, I pushed it back in a puff with a headband.

By now Kya’s hair was budding and I was pleased as punch. I get reminded (sometimes frequently) from some family about how short my hair was as a kid. My mom figured out a regimen for me and it worked, I don’t have any bad memories.  Thank Heavens.

I really want to spare Kya any hair teasing scenarios as well as any sessions on the couch. Kids are honest enough, who needs hair in the mix?

Me, I was just wearing it curly, then in the winter I went to two strand twists (which was my introductory search topic on youtube btw…)

And somewhere along the line I was inspired to share my trials and tribulations here, on this free and fabulous blog.

Well, what do we have here?

This is Kya in the Spring 2010…can you say, we’ve come a long way baby?! In this photo, I see the sweet lil’ girl that she is inside, she really isn’t too sassy, for reals.

So, 2 years, 37 products, 88 hairstyles and $564 dollars later. We’ve reached lift off. Looking how you feel.

Again, before…

After -

And as for me..

I’m luvn this big ol’ fro and I don’t see anything militant about it, at all.  Afterall, it’s just hair.

But let me ask you…why on earth does wisdom take so gosh darn long?

Thanks for checking in with me Peeps!

P.S. Up next my Thrift Store finds, I’m a regular at my local Goodwill, they know me there and I’ve got my $4 discount card to prove it!
